Now accepting proposals for our 110th Season

We are seeking experienced directors with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion via diverse playwrights, casts, and stories.

Proposals may include one or more production(s) for consideration. All submissions are welcome and will be evaluated based on budget, casting, and space viability for Vagabond Players.

• A typical Vagabond Players season consists of five productions containing the following genres: drama, musical, mystery/thriller, and comedy (Comedies in particular are encouraged).
• All submissions must be published works with a license available (or in public domain) with a previous production history. We urge submission of original/unpublished content to the Baltimore Playwrights Festival.
• Relatively simple production values/requirements such as single sets, minimal props, easy-to-source costumes, are highly recommended. Please note when building your proposal that the Vagabond Theatre is a small-stage theatre without an orchestra pit, limited backstage space, and a minimal fly system.

All submissions must include the following:

• Play Info – title, author, plot summary, and publishing company
• Concept – the director’s production concept for the play, including set, costumes, and casting.
  • BUDGET - Please include any ways you intend to keep the production on budget, especially if the show being proposed typically has larger, or higher cost, production elements.
  • PRODUCTION TEAM - Please be prepared to provide any pertinent information regarding your potential production team (particularly music director for musicals).
  • STAGING - Please detail how the play would be performed at our theater (e.g. small stage, no wing space, no orchestra pit, etc.).
• Director Info – detailed theatrical resume highlighting directing experience (if you have not previously directed at Vagabond Players)
• References – two (2) outside references for theatrical experience and qualifications (if the director has not previously directed at Vagabond Players)

We invite directors of all races and ethnicities, gender identities, sexualities, abilities, and ages to submit their proposal(s) for our 110th Season. Selected directors will be expected to cast diverse cast members and to have representation within their productions. Directors will receive a $250 stipend.

New or inexperienced directors are encouraged to reach out regarding a possible assistant directing mentorship.

COVID/FLU RECOMMENDATION - Due to the intimate nature of our venue, all production members are highly encouraged to stay up to date on their vaccinations including any recommended boosters.
