(verb) to give for a good cause, for example money or goods to a charity
As part of our #GivingTuesday effort this year, Vagabond Players wants to give back to the community we have called home for over 50 years. Our current production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee inspired us to host a school supply drive to benefit Fells Point’s own Wolfe Street Academy.
Wolfe Street Academy is a PK, K-5 Baltimore City Public School with Conversion Charter Status. This means Wolfe Street was previously a traditional public school that sought the responsibility and right to take on the greater independence of charter status. Unlike other charters that fill all seats by lottery, Conversion Charters maintain the enrollment zone that they previously served as a traditional school, serving all students in their zone regardless of lottery timelines. The school serves students and their families in the Upper Fells Point neighborhood.
With the holiday season fast approaching, please help us support the students and teachers in our community. All new school supplies are welcome and appreciated. Want to help but not sure what to give, Wolfe Street Academy has provided the below list of most needed supplies:
Donations can be dropped off at our box office (806 S. Broadway, Baltimore, MD 21231) during any of our performances of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee running through November 17 - check out the show page for performance dates and times.
No time to go to the store? We’ve made it simple to give with an Amazon Wishlist - Just add the items you’d like to donate to your cart and place your order. Your donation will deliver directly to our team and be added to the items we give to Wolfe Street Academy on #GivingTuesday (December 3).
Simone Ellin, associate editor, takes a look at our 100+ year long history:
“Keeping the lights on in a community theater is no easy feat. It takes talented actors, directors and designers willing to work for nothing or next to nothing; a cadre of dependable donors; a venue in which to stage performances; and, of course, theater-loving audiences to buy tickets and fill seats.
It’s something Vagabond Players has been doing for the past 103 years…”
The Vagabonds Players is pleased once again to be offering Baltimore area audiences the very best that Broadway has to offer in comedy, drama and musical entertainment.
